THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The United Democratic Front (UDF) leaders have taken serious exception to the security lapse during the journey of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's motorcade from the airport to the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday. Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy in a statement here on Wednesday described as a serious lapse the Home Minister's absence from the State during the Prime Minister's visit, especially when there was threat to his life. He wanted the incident, which involved the taking of the wrong route by the motorcade and its getting trapped in the under-pass for 10 minutes after 10 p.m. to be viewed very seriously. It was shameful to Kerala. The Home Minister had to admit that there was a security lapse. The deputing of a private taxi driver to drive the pilot vehicle when there were hundreds of drivers in the police and other departments of the Government was not at all proper.
