KOCHI: Life was severely affected on the third day of the strike called by private bus and lorry operators here on Wednesday. The public had a tough time, as mini lorries and vans kept off the road in support of the strike. Problems faced by commuters got worse following the strike call given by autorickshaws, demanding proper investigation into the murder of a driver. Passengers had to wait for long hours at various spots in the city. Despite the Government giving an assurance that KSRTC buses would be pressed into service, people complained that the services were minimal. Most of the buses did not halt at the stops, adding to the woes of commuters. Passengers complained that private vehicles, which transported people from west Kochi and nearby areas, collected exorbitant fares. The functioning of schools and business establishments got affected.
