Property dealer nabbed
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi) Anil Shukla, Manjit Singh was arrested on Wednesday evening. The police suspect that he stabbed 70-year-old Surejeet Kaur and her husband Mohan Singh following an altercation. Ms. Kaur succumbed to her injuries at Max Hospital. According to the police, investigations have revealed that Manjit was interested in buying Mr. Singh's property.
Two held for shoot-out
The accused have been identified as Dinesh and Surender. During interrogation, they purportedly confessed to their involvement and disclosed that they were relatives of the young woman, Raj. They along with some others tried to kill her and her lover Bhupender Singh as the two were getting married against the wishes of her relatives. The incident took place when Raj and Bhupender were on their way to get married in a temple. Accompanying them was their friend Brahm who also sustained injuries. While a hunt is on for the other accused, the police have recovered the vehicle that was used in committing the crime.
RI for stabbing wife
"There is overwhelming evidence on record against the accused besides he has admitted his guilt," Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Satnam Singh observed, convicting Malkiat Singh of stabbing his wife Jasbir Kaur for not bringing Rs 50,000 from her father three years ago. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 200 on the convict. Earlier, the convict -- a resident of Raghubir Nagar here -- pleaded for leniency in the case stating that he was extremely poor and would not harass his wife in future. During the trial, the complainant Harbhajan Kaur, victim's sister-in-law, deposed that on the intervening night of April 29-30, 2003, Jasbir's younger son Johri came rushing to her home and told her that his father had attacked his mother with a knife and a hammer.
