HYDERABAD: BJP secretary and former Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya has sought the linking of the Revenue and Registration Departments and amendment of the Revenue Act to check irregularities in land registrations and transactions. In a letter to Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, Mr.Dattatreya said that because of lacunae in the legislation, Government inefficiency and corruption of officials, common and middle class people and farmers were no longer sure about possession of the plots and lands bought by them. While land mafia, encroachers and corrupt officials had the backing of bigwigs in the Government, the common people had no protection for their assets. Citing double registration of lands already bought by middle class people in Bachupalli, Ameenpur, Tellapur, Bandlaguda, Bhavani Nagar, Kollur, Upparpalli, Nanakramguda and other villages, he sought to know why no action was initiated against sub-registrars who allowed double registrations. By not doing mutation in the name of those who bought the lands after registration, the revenue officials indirectly encouraged those selling the same land again and again to different people. He alleged that relatives of some Ministers forced the original pattadars to sell their land at a far lesser price in Tellapur and Upparpally villages. Referring to an attempt being made to hand over 200 acres of Central University to a private firm, he asked the State to drop the proposal.
