TIRUCHI: The Transport Minister, K.N. Nehru, has directed the Corporation officials to immediately take up temporary restoration of roads in residential colonies affected by the recent rain. The works would be taken up more specifically in colonies wherever trenches have been dug for laying underground sewer lines. Gravel and quarry dust would be used to restore the roads within a week, Mr. Nehru said after inspecting some affected areas at Ammaiyappa Nagar off Vayalur Road on Wednesday. The Minister, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor, M. Anbazhagan, and the Corporation Commissioner, M. Balachandran, visited the colony in the wake of a `road roko' staged by the residents on Tuesday . Representatives of the residents' welfare association told Mr. Nehru that the slushy roads had made several houses inaccessible. Apart from Ammaiyappa Nagar, newly added residential colonies in other parts of the city including Woraiyur, Karumandapam, Srirangam, Veereswaram and Ganapathi Nagar, would be covered under the restoration drive, Mr. Nehru said.
