NEW DELHI : S. Sudhakar Reddy, chairperson of the Committee on Labour, has drawn the attention of Minister of State for Labour Oscar Fernandes to the need to revamp the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) and convene a meeting of the Employees Provident Fund Board to finalise the interest rate for 2005-06.
Functioning of ESIC
In a letter addressed to the Minister, Mr. Reddy said that he felt the entire functioning of offices under the ESIC, particularly those of the Medical Commissioner and the Regional Director posted in the States, must be thoroughly overhauled and all lacunae removed at various levels to bring them on a par with those in the Central Health Services. ``I would request you to look into the entire functioning of the ESIC in great detail and see that the vacancies are filled forthwith and also see that there is no discrimination between the doctors in the country.'' He said only when proper facilities were given would the doctors put their heart and soul into their duty. He said the EPF Board meeting must be convened to decide the interest rate for the year 2005-06.
