`Kaisika Dwadasi' observed

Staff Reporter

TIRUMALA:

The auspicious `Kaisika Dwadasi' festival was celebrated on Thursday at the temple of Lord Venkateswara, Tirumala. As part of the festival, the idol of Lord `Ugra Srinivasa' was brought out of the main sanctum sanctorum and was taken out in a grand procession around the mada streets encircling the holy shrine in the wee hours.

The idol of Ugra Srinivasa is brought out of the sanctum sanctorum only once in a year. The TTD management cancelled all pre-dawn rituals being performed inside the temple.

The day is remembered for the truthfulness of a Dalit devotee who rendered the hymns (Purana Pravachanam) in the temple.
