All set to enter Guinness record

Staff Reporter

Performer extraordinaire

  • He can recall day of the week in a second up to 600 years
  • Venugopal call also recall a set of random numbers up to 600

HYDERABAD: Can you recall the exact day of the week if you are given the date and year, picking it up randomly from the pages of time, that too flat in one second?

A feat tough to replicate given that the existing record in Guinness Book of World Records stands at 3.8 seconds!

Nalgonda academician T. Venu Gopal Reddy performed it with clockwork precision — one second to be precise — at a `Mind Power and Memory Skills' demonstration here on Wednesday.

Even as one had barely finished asking the question, Mr. Reddy had the answer on his lips.

"I have trained my mind to recall the day of the week in a second up to 600 years between 1701 and 2,300 A.D. It took me a year to master it. I am aiming to enter into the Guinness Book of World Records," he said.

    Recalling numbers

That's not all. Mr. Reddy also has a thorough hold on digital memorisation in which a person has to recall a set of random numbers.

"I can recall any random number up to 600. Earlier, I had recalled about 100 numbers within 16 minutes.

"These things can be done by anyone if they are properly trained," he affirms.

Till two years ago, Mr. Reddy was the Principal of an Industrial Training Institute in Nalgonda and never thought that he would be able to acquire prodigious memory powers within a short span of two years.

"I learned memory skills and mind power enhancing techniques in just two years from my Guru.

In fact, students will benefit a lot if these techniques are taught to them in the school curriculum," he said.

    Coaching students

Mr. Venu Gopal has taken up free coaching to enhance the memory of schoolchildren in various schools.

Till now he has visited about 500 schools in Telangana districts and a few in Hyderabad to share with children the nuances of increasing the memory power.
