Rupee closes shade lower

MUMBAI: The rupee on Thursday fell moderately and closed a shade lower against the U.S. currency at 44.89/90 a dollar due to some fresh dollar demand after the U.S. unit edged up against the Japanese yen.

In quiet trading at the interbank foreign exchange market, the Indian unit opened lower at 44.90/92 against Wednesday's close of 44.8650/8750, but thereafter improved marginally to close at 44.89/90, still lower than the previous close. — PTI
