VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra University on Thursday released a brochure to woo foreign students particularly those from the SAARC, Gulf and African countries to pursue their educational career here. Releasing the brochure, Vice-Chancellor L. Venugopal Reddy told mediapersons that presently about 30 students from such countries were pursuing UG, PG and research courses. "We want to highlight the university at the international level as the standards and facilities available here are matching with any international university," he said. The brochure would be circulated to foreign countries and their embassies in India so as to create awareness about the university, its excellent faculty and world-class standard research activities.
CDs too soon
There were plans to bring out another brochure and also CDs within a month highlighting the courses and facilities offered by the engineering, arts and science and pharmaceutical sciences colleges affiliated to the varsity to help foreign students. He said there was hostel facility in the university and if necessary additional facility for international students could be created. He said the university was presently offering 187 courses. Of course the course fee for foreign students would be higher than those that of Indian students, Mr. Reddy said adding that the students abroad could send their application throughout the year. The total process of admission would take about three months. Depending upon the time of receipt of the application the students would be admitted in the current academic year or the subsequent year, he said.
Convocation
Regarding the university convocation scheduled on November 6, the Vice-Chancellor said 378 Ph.D and 75 M.Phil. degrees would be presented, besides 25 gold medals and other prizes. Elaborate security and other arrangements were being made to ensure that the convocation passed off peacefully. The awardees of honorary doctorate include former Governor and noted economist C. Rangarajan, Defence scientist A. Sivathanu Pillai and actor Chiranjeevi, he said.
