In praise of the President

R. Sujatha

President Abdul Kalam

CHENNAI: A young boy in Chennai was surprised when he received a congratulatory letter from President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

Vivek Athreya of Standard VIII of Bala Vidya Mandir, Adyar, had written a poem on Mr. Kalam. The four couplets that he wrote in praise of the President captured the First Citizen's attention.

Mr. Kalam replied to the boy, greeting him and his family. His two-line note said: "I have received your nice poem through your father. My greeting and best wishes to you, your parents and teachers. May God bless you." Vivek's poem was titled `Salaam to the great Kalam', and it appealed to friends to set an alarm for `Here comes Abdul Kalam'.
