HYDERABAD : All the Government-run district and regional libraries in the State will go online shortly. The district libraries are being computerised under a modernisation plan. Already, computers have been installed in four Government and seven district libraries. In all, 196 textbooks of Class I to X and 36,409 other general titles have been put on the website launched recently for libraries. Addressing chairmen of District Grandhalaya Samsthas on Thursday, School Education Minister N. Rajyalakshmi said some identified libraries were being provided with air-conditioned reading rooms and xerox machines. Referring to the shortage of staff, she said the chairmen could go ahead to make appointments on contract basis as the issue was cleared by the Chief Minister. They could purchase furniture too. The Minister wanted one library in every village, but funded by philanthropists. She, expressed dissatisfaction over the functioning of the 1,835 libraries and 1,402 book deposit centres.
