B. Muralidhar Reddy
COLOMBO: The former Chief Justice, P.N. Bhagwati, has agreed to be part of the Sri Lanka International Independent Group of Eminent Persons to study the investigations conducted by the Commissioner of Inquiry into charges of human rights violations. Columnist and civil rights activist Kuldip Nayar said at a press conference here the association of Justice (retd) Bhagwati would enhance credibility of the group. Mr. Nayar is here as head of a five-member delegation of civil rights activists from India for an assessment of the rights situation and ways and means to promote India-Sri Lanka people's dialogue. Expressing serious concern over the deteriorating human rights and security situation, the delegation appealed to the Government and the LTTE to eschew the path of violence and resolve all issues through dialogue. The delegation met a cross-section of society barring the Tamil Tigers. They did however have a meeting with the pro-LTTE Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentary delegation.
