Nearly one lakh students likely to enrol in CA course

Special Correspondent

Enrolment is expected to go up nearly three fold in 2007

  • Reduction of course duration has attracted more students
  • Nearly 8,000 students qualify every year as Chartered Accountants

CHENNAI: Enrolment in the chartered accountancy (CA) course is expected to go up nearly three fold next year, according to the president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, T.N. Manoharan.

He told presspersons here on Thursday that in the last three years, the enrolment was about 35,000 a year.

It was expected to touch one lakh in 2007.

    Duration

Reduction of the course duration to four years, easy entry without diluting standards (making the methodology easy), reform in the examination pattern and increasing job opportunities were among the reasons for the higher enrolment.

Earlier, the course duration was five-and-a-half years; hence, there was hesitation among candidates to join.
