CHENNAI: Trained manpower is the need of the hour in the era of communication revolution and expanding frontiers, Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudi said.
Symposium
Business and management skills were acquiring newer dimensions and a pragmatic approach was needed in fostering business solutions, he said while inaugurating the two-day national management symposium, Insight `06, organised by the Loyola Institute of Business Administration on Thursday. Tracing the evolution of business practices from barter economy to the present liberalised era, the Minister said skilled personnel were much sought after in areas such as retail business and banking. The symposium, which focuses on changing business landscapes in fields such as retail, banking and human resources, will also deal with issues such as change management. "The key differentiators in an industry are the employees. While the marketplace changes faster than the employees, it brings to the fore challenges in human resources management, calling for innovative HR practices.
Topics
Insight `06 will deal with topics such as challenges and opportunities in retail marketing, future of banking in India and the creative chaos of today's business world," P. Christie, director, LIBA, said. The first day of the symposium will cover topics such as growth drivers/risk management and consolidation in the banking sector, retail management, challenges and opportunities faced by FMCG sector and consumer durable firms. The second day's symposium would focus on retail marketing by telecom firms, IT advantage in retailing, mega retailing, emerging trends in HR and change management. Over 50 top corporate executives from the banking, finance, telecom, retail, HR and FMCG sector will participate. B. Jeyaraj and T.A. Sivasubramaniam, rector and dean of LIBA, were also present during the inaugural function.
