UPSC exams: CIC hearing of plea today

Staff Reporter

  • Candidates want UPSC to reveal details on preliminary exams
  • They want a decision before November 10

NEW DELHI : The Central Information Commission will on Friday (November 3) conduct the final hearing in the case filed by some candidates who appeared for the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2006.

The candidates, who call themselves Transparency Seekers, want the Union Public Service Central (UPSC) to reveal details about the preliminary examinations.

Don Sunil of Transparency Seekers said a full Commission of the CIC would hear their case at Ber Sarai on Friday.

``This is the first time that the third hearing in a case is taking place. The earlier hearings were on October 16 and October 23,'' he said.

On October 16, the UPSC told the CIC that it was yet to dispose of the appeal by Transparency Seekers. The CIC asked the UPSC to complete the proceedings by October 23, when it would announce a final decision.

However, on October 23, the UPSC — while rejecting the appeal by the Transparency Seekers that was lying with its appellate authority — cited technical reasons and sought more time.

"The CIC then asked us to file a fresh appeal and a simultaneous complaint within two days, after which it would announce a date on which the decision would be announced,'' said Mr. Sunil.

The candidates want a decision well before November 10, when the Main Examinations will be over, as otherwise the whole information will be rendered redundant.
