`East Godavari district tops in implementing micro irrigation scheme'

  • Chief Minister to review progress of works during his visit
  • Officials asked to ensure youth participation in army recruitment

Kakinada : East Godavari Collector M. Subrahmanyam has said the district is in the top position in the State in implementation of Andhra Pradesh Micro Irrigation Scheme.

Reviewing the progress of various developmental and welfare schemes here on Thursday, he asked all officials to achieve the targets fixed in the implementation of various schemes by the time the Chief Minister reviews the position during his visit here in December. He wanted the district water management agency project director to expedite the programme of brining all the assigned lands to use under the comprehensive land development scheme.

    Meet targets

He asked officials to ensure that all the targeted 4068 units under Rajiv Yuva Sakti for the year 2005-06 were grounded by this month end.

The Collector asked the chief executive officer of SETRAJ Ramalingeswera Raju to expedite grounding of all the 5576 units fixed as the target for this year. He asked all the officials to ensure that youth would participate on a large scale in the army recruitment to be held here from November 20-25.

    Plea to extend date

The Kakinada Consumers' Council at its meeting here on Thursday with P.S.R.K. Thimmaji Rao, advocate, in the chair, resolved to appeal to the Election Commission to extend the final date for voter enrolment for the elections to the Legislative Council. "As against over 10 lakh eligible graduates only a few thousands have registered their names so far.

In such a situation, conducting of elections will be a futile exercise," the council opined.
