ALAPPUZHA: The Agitation Committee for the Development of Alappuzha Medical College Hospital has said that bureaucratic bottlenecks are scuttling the shifting of MCH from its congested building in Alappuzha town to new building at Vandanam Medical College campus. Mohammed Asheel, convener of the committee, pointed out that the promise to complete shifting of some of the key departments before January 2007 had failed to materialise despite a decision of a Minister-level meeting held on July 27. The meeting held at Vandanam campus was chaired by Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy and attended by Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac and Minister for Cooperation G. Sudhakaran. As per the decision at the meeting, a special officer was appointed to expedite the shifting process. Mr. Asheel pointed out that though the Government provided administrative sanction for the minor works and altercations in the buildings to which the certain departments were to be shifted, the technical and purchase sanctions for the same were being denied. He pointed out that the MCH urgently needed 293 additional staff in various sections and 15 more doctors.
