Satheesh shines

Dindigul: A brace by Satheesh Kumar helped Dindigul defeat Kanchipuram 2-0 and enter the semifinals of the 29th Tamil Nadu State junior inter-district football championship for the T.P. Ramasamy Pillai Cup organised by Solar Sports Club at the Government HSS ground, Nilakottai, near here on Thursday.

Satheesh scored the first goal in the 21st minute off a fine pass from Thirulokachandran and netted the second in the 31st, receiving an overhead pass from midfielder Ashok Kumar.

Chennai also entered the semifinals edging past Tirunelveli 1-0. The winner was scored by David off a superb overhead pass from Sasikumar in the 32nd minute.

The results: Quarterfinals: Dindigul 2 (Satheesh Kumar 2) bt Kanchipuram 0; Chennai 1 (David) bt Tirunelveli 0.

Pre-quarterfinals: Chennai 3 (Sasikumar, David 2) bt Madurai 2 (Nagendran, Sankar); Kanchipuram 3 (Karthik 2, Jayaprakash) bt Pudukottai 2 (Vinoth, Selva Ganesh); Dindigul 1 (Satheesh Kumar) bt Ramanathapuram 0. — Sports Correspondent
