3 of family end lives

NIZAMABAD: Three members of a family belonging to Gajulpet in Nizamabad town ended their lives by jumping into the Godavari in Basar. They were identified as K. Sampath (45), Sampath's wife (35) and their daughter (18). The reasons behind the extreme step could not be known, CI of Muthole Devadas Nagul said.

4 Maoists surrender

ANANTAPUR: Four Maoists, including commander of Ramagiri dalam B. Bayappa alias Hari (24), surrendered before M.S. Ravindra, SP, here on Thursday. Hari's wife K. Nagaveni alias Vijaya (22), B. Pothanna alias Adi (29) and B. Bommaiah (29) surrendered. Hari was involved in 27 cases, including blasting of Pothukunta police station and attempt to kidnap then Kalayanadurg legislator K. Girl dies of snakebite

KHAMMAM: K. Jeevana, eighth class student of Pratibha School, a regional institute run by the Tribal Welfare Department, died of snakebite in her hostel at Yatapaka near Bhadrachalam on Thursday. Students could spot a snake near the hostel and watchman killed it. Bhadrachalam MLA Sunnam Rajaiah wanted an ex gratia of Rs. 3 lakhs for the victim's family. - Staff Reporter

Food poisoning

MAHABUBNAGAR: Over 10 students of Government upper primary school at Dhodaguntapally in Peddamandadi mandal were hospitalised with complaints of vomiting on Thursday. After having mid-day meal, they developed stomach pain and began vomiting. - Correspondent

Ryot ends life

KURNOOL: A farmer Venkateswarlu (35) committed suicide by consuming some pesticide at Padamatur in Sirivel mandal on Thursday. TDP district president Byreddy Rajasekhar Reddy who visited the village gave Rs. 5,000 to the bereaved family. -Staff Reporter

Theft in TTD complex

TIRUMALA: A baggage of a pilgrim party was allegedly stolen from safety lockers of the TTD-run amenities complex. The incident came to light when the pilgrim party from Salem approached security officials and told them about the theft. Three cell phones and Rs.3,500 in cash were taken away. - Staff Reporter

2 officials in ACB net

HYDERABAD: Anti-Corruption Bureau officials on Thursday arrested Additional Revenue Inspector of Bommalaramaram in Nalgonda district Nedunoori Gayatri on the charge of accepting Rs. 4,000 bribe from a person. In another case, Agriculture Officer of Odela mandal in Karimnagar district Kandukuri Anand Rao was held on the charge of receiving Rs. 1,000 from a person. - Staff Reporter

Narsapur CI held on graft charge

Sangareddy: Narsapur Circle inspector C. Linganna was caught red-handed by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 3 lakhs from one S. Satyanarayana Raju at the CI's office in Narsapur here on Thursday. - Staff Reporter

Railway line inspected

ADILABAD: South Central Railway's (SCR) Nanded Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) on Thursday inspected the newly converted broad gauge line between Kinwat and Mudkhed. Woman found dead

KHAMMAM: Ramadevi, 18, a housewife died in suspicious circumstances in Manuguru on Thursday. The police said she got married three months ago and was found dead in her house. Her parents alleged that she was a victim of dowry.
