HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party has criticised the State Government proposal to introduce English language lessons from Class I and make English medium of instruction from Class VI onwards in Gurukul schools. In a statement TDP MLAs, Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu and Sana Maruthi said the State Government is out to do irreparable damage to the mother tongue Telugu. The Government wants to go against the well-established norm that the education for children would be better in their mother tongue. The Government also seems to forget the role played by language in creation of States, the struggle of freedom fighters for introduction of Telugu and goal set by the State to teach and administer in Telugu, they said and demanded that the move be dropped.
