ANANTAPUR: State secretary of Communist Party of India K. Narayana has attributed the backwardness of Telangana region mostly to the rule of Nizams for long. He cited better progress of other regions in the State which were under the British rule when compared to Telangana under the Nizams. While the British had taken some care in developing sectors like education, health and irrigation, the Nizams neglected all these three vital aspects, he said in a press conference here on Thursday. The reason behind people frequently raising the Telangana statehood issue was because of the feeling that they were being neglected for long, Dr. Narayana said. Nobody would object if somebody succeeded in achieving separate statehood for Telangana, but the protest calls like the one on State Formation Day made them look like history-sheeters, he said. A study of the problems in the region by constituting an experts' panel, formation of a regional development council and implementation of a special package would be a solution. The CPI would run a campaign on the backward regions from November 11 to 17 and conduct `Chalo Hyderabad or Chalo Assembly' on November 20 demanding constitution of regional development councils.
