KADAPA: Fourteen mandals in Kadapa district have been identified as prone to viral fevers, chikungunya and dengue, Collector M.T. Krishna Babu said on Thursday. Three persons lost lives to dengue and 13 cases were detected in the district, he said at a constituency-level review meeting at Kamalapuram mandal parishad office. He called upon officials to undertake a special sanitation drive in the district and involve public representatives and people in it. A sum of Rs. 43.80 lakh was sanctioned to health sub-centres for improving sanitation and gram panchayats would get Rs.1 crore from 12th Finance Commission funds, he said. Sprayers and chemicals were purchased for taking up anti-larval operations. He urged MROs and MPDOs to tour villages and create public awareness on upkeep of sanitation. Stating that the district lagged behind in constructing houses under Indiramma scheme, Mr. Krishna Babu urged officials to motivate beneficiaries to construct foundations by November 15. Stressing need for expediting housing works, he said Rs. 5 crores was earmarked to enable MROs to procure private lands for housing, if adequate Government land was unavailable. Any land could be purchased except endowment lands and tank poramboke lands, he said. Stressing the need for eradication of child labour practice, he said other mandals should emulate Khajipet mandal, which was declared child labour-free. Officials have to spend Rs. 95 crore under Andhra Pradesh Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme by March end, as only Rs. 20 crore was spent under the scheme so far. Target could be met by spending Rs. 2 crores in each mandal by March end. Passbooks and job cards should be kept with the workers to avert scope for irregularities, he suggested. The Collector instructed officials to augment water supply to needy villages and particularly ensure proper supply to primary health centres. Zilla Parishad chairperson D. Jyothi Reddy wanted proper implementation of Indiramma scheme as Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was monitoring it. Kamalapuram MLA G. Veerasiva Reddy asked public representatives to strive for the constituency development in all sectors. Officials posed problems to housing beneficiaries, he complained.
