Tackle bus-lorry stir: Chennithala

Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala has asked the Government to take effective steps to tackle the bus-lorry strike by running parallel bus services and addressing the shortage of essential articles.

In a statement here on Thursday, Mr. Chennithala said it was not enough to declare the strike unlawful and should be accompanied by effective measures to address the difficulties faced by the common man.

KPCC spokesperson M.M. Hassan protested against the reluctance of the Government to make the golden jubilee celebrations of the State's formation a success and view seriously the Prime Minister's visit to commemorate the occasion.

He said the detour taken by the Prime Minister's pilot car was a serious security lapse and attempts were to make the taxi driver of the pilot the scapegoat. He termed the Home Minister's statement accusing some of the police officials of immaturity in handling the security for the Prime Minister's visit an exaggeration.

The decision of the Home Minister to leave for Delhi during the Prime Minister's visit itself was a careless act. The absence of the Home Minister was a serious official lapse.

The Government was totally responsible for the lack of public participation in the golden jubilee celebrations, he added.
