PANIPAT: In its special drive against polluting industries, the Haryana State Pollution Control Board has sealed as many as 10 dyeing units on charges of releasing contaminating effluents. The board also served notices to about a dozen other dye houses directing them not to release water containing chemicals into the Nohra drain which was contaminating ponds in around a dozen villages of Panipat and Sonepat districts. The residents of these villages have complained that the water from the Nohra drain is unfit even for animals' consumption. Regional officer of the Board A K Mittal on Thursday said the sealing action was taken against those dye units, all of them located on Jatal road, which had not installed effluent treatments plants even after receiving notices from the board. ``Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam authorities have also been urged to disconnect the electricity connections of the sealed units,'' he said. Besides, the board has identified more than a dozen other such units which have been releasing untreated water and the board has already served notices to them for installation of treatment plants.- PTI
