Government HSS chalks up win

KANNUR: Government HSS, Vengad proved to be lucky against S.S. HSS, Thaliparamaba as it emerged a 4-2 winner via the tie-breaker in the pre-quarterfinal of the first Vasuettan memorial inter-school football tournament at the Jawahar Municipal stadium here on Thursday.

The two teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the regulation period, after Subair of the Thaliparamba school had equalled the 37th-minute lead goal by Sumanesh of the Vengad school.

Later, Panchayat HSS, Pappinissery defeated C.H.M.S.HSS, Valapatanam, al through the tie-breaker at 4-2, which was applied after the two sides had returned goal-less at the end of full time.

YMCA College, LNCPE enter final

At Aluva, Chennai's YMCA College of Physical Education will clash with Thiruvananthapuram's LNCPE in the men's final of the 15th Dr. A.K. Baby memorial South India inter-collegiate hockey tournament at the Union Christian College ground here on Friday.

In the semifinals on Thursday, YMCA College defeated Fatima Matha National (Kollam) 1-0 while LNCPE beat host Union Christian by an identical margin.

Both the goals came through penalty corners early in the game.

The results: Semifinals: LNCPE, Thiruvananthapuram 1 (Rajeesh Ravi) bt Union Christian, Aluva 0. YMCA College, Chennai 1 (Babu Prasad) bt Fatima Matha National, Kollam 0.

Women's league: Sree Narayana, Kollam 5 (Indu 2; Soumya, Chithra, Carmilin) bt YMCA College, Chennai 2 (Joselin, Chandralekha).
