NIZAMABAD: Some 200 poor landless persons, led by the All-India Kisan Mazdoor Sangh on Thursday, occupied 517 acres of wasteland belonging to the Revenue Department at Sirikonda mandal headquarters in the district. According to AIKMS Armoor division joint secretary P. Ramakrishna, his union has taken the initiative to give possession of the land to the poor as some influential persons are reportedly occupying it with the help of authorities. All beneficiaries are landless coolies and deserve to be given the land. Earlier too, they had attempted to till the land by clearing bushes, but with the promise made by the Revenue and Forest officials that the land would be distributed after a detailed survey, they withdrew the attempt. However, the authorities did not keep their word.
