Power supply may worsen in Medak

ZP meet demands uninterrupted supply

  • Transco claims 35,000 illegal connections in the district
  • Drinking water scheme to cover 279 villages

Sangareddy: The first ever full-fledged Zilla Parishad general body meeting on Thursday has demanded uninterrupted seven-hour power supply to the farm sector.

Cutting across party lines, the members wanted a minimum of four hours supply during the day so as to save the Rabi crop. However, Transco Superintending Engineer Ashok Reddy said that he could not assure continuous supply but continue the present supply in two shifts. The SE told the general body meeting that situation could worsen in the coming months.

    Illegal connections

Explaining the power position in the district, Mr. Ashok Reddy said that the load on the grid could be averted if the peoples' representatives help reduce the number of illegal connections in the district.

He pointed out that a farmer having more than three bore well connections should not be given free power. He informed the members that there are more than 35, 000 illegal power connections in the district.

    Pollution

Representatives from Jinnaram complained that 42 bore wells in the mandal became useless due to ground water pollution caused by industrial waste. They demanded the Rural Water Scheme (RWS) officials to implement the Rs 1.40 crores drinking water scheme sanctioned by the State Government. RWS SE Ranga Rao announced that this year 279 villages have been selected for provision of drinking water under Indiramma scheme.

Members from the eleven mandals bordering Hyderabad and Secunderabad complained about the problems they are facing following ban on transactions on government lands.
