Bangalore: Cable TV operators can heave a sigh of relief. Bangalore-based Innomedia Technologies Pvt. Ltd., a technology innovation company of Reliance Communications (Anil Dhirubhai Ambani group), has developed a next-generation Internet technology that allows high density TV video to be streamed to any home or office. It will help cable operators face the threat from direct-to-home (DTH) operators. And, this Indian technology is ready to take on the world. The Converged Home and Office Integrated Services or CHOIS technology, which was in the pilot stage with 5,000 users for the past four years, was previewed at the `IP Zone' stall at the just-concluded Bangalore IT.in 2006. "DTH is a threat to the future of cable operators. The CHOIS technology will be a boon to cable operators as they will forge ahead of others in the world," says Mohan Tambe, managing director, Innomedia Technologies. But, for this, the cable operators have to lay the next-generation fibre-to-home Internet network, which provides a 100-Mb symmetric bandwidth to each home and office. While the world is talking about triple-play, CHOIS goes a step further. The human interface of the new technology developed in Bangalore with an investment of over Rs. 60 crore is a set-side box called CHOISpad, a hexa-play device for providing digital TV channels, personal video recorder, video on demand, Internet browsing, voice over Internet telephony and video serving facility. Mr. Tambe said CHOIS would be officially launched in Mumbai in the next few days.
