Special Correspondent

`Fairness and impartiality to be the buzzwords vis-à-vis political interference'

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Police Department would soon get a toll- free number installed to facilitate people informing the police about any criminal activity, the newly-appointed Director-General of Haryana Police, R.S. Dalal, said here on Thursday.

Addressing his first press conference, Mr. Dalal said that effective steps would be taken to ensure speedy disposal of cases pertaining to notorious criminals.

He pointed out that the toll-free number already installed at the headquarters of the State Vigilance Bureau to enable the people report instances of corruption had generated tremendous response.

The drive against corruption would continue, he asserted. On the progress made in pending cases concerning some politicians, especially those pertaining to former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, Mr. Dalal said that although most of the cases were with the Central Bureau of Investigation yet progress was satisfactory in those being investigated by the State agency.

He said all police stations would soon be inter-linked under the wide area network programme.
