MYSORE: Residents of Kuvempunagar on Thursday aired their grievances before Mysore City Corporation Commissioner K.N. Chandrashekar at a public interaction meeting here. The meeting was held to hear the grievances of the residents of Kuvempunagar, especially of Ward 16, during which 30 petitions on various issues were submitted.
Issues
Issues such as lack of garbage and debris clearance, acute drinking water shortage and problems with the underground drainage system were brought to the notice of the commissioner. Many petitioners complained that the officials concerned had ignored their pleas. K.V. Mallesh, president of Aniketana Youth Club, said the lighting arrangement in most of the parks was inadequate.
Debris
Debris was being recklessly dumped around the parks, he added. While suggesting that individuals or private organisations could adopt the parks for maintenance, the commissioner directed the officials to prepare estimates for proper lighting in the parks at the earliest.
Floods
Owners of HUDCO houses at Kuvempunagar, who face the problem of floods during monsoon, said sewage entered many houses in low-lying areas. An engineer of the city corporation said an apartment block had not connected its sewer line to the main drainage and it was because of this they were facing the problem. Retired executive engineer Chandrashekara Swamy said, "While we pay taxes, we do not get basic services such as cleaning of roads or clearing debris strewn around. Only those streets where politicians reside are neatly kept."
