Content for Plus Two science subjects likely to be modified

CHENNAI
: A decision on reducing content further in some of the subjects studied by students of Class XI and XII under the State Board will be taken soon, officials here said.
The enriched curriculum and syllabus were introduced by the State Board in 2004-05 and the first batch wrote the higher secondary public examinations in March 2006.
Following complaints from schools, students especially from rural areas and parents that the new content was tough for students from backward regions, the DMK government decided to review the syllabus. The officials noted that the number of students scoring 100 per cent in the subjects had come down and the failure rates too had gone up in some parts of the State.
A high level committee headed by M. Naganathan, vice chairman of the State Planning Commission, was constituted to review the committee.
The committee has finalised its work and, if officials involved are to be believed, the content might be reduced in many of the science subjects.
A meeting of the department will be held soon to take the issue further.
