TAMBARAM : The underground sewer network of the Pallavaram Municipality would come up as originally planned, except for a change in the location of a lift station, officials said. However officials of the Department of the Municipal Administration and Water Supply are waiting for court orders on the location of the main pumping station. After inspecting the progress of works in Pallavaram Municipality, officials of the Department and Chennai Metrowater told reporters on Thursday that construction of the two sub stations at Ramasamy Kuttai and Indira Nagar and a lift station in Sarathy Street would go ahead as planned.
Lift station
They had decided to shift the location of a lift station at Arul Murugan Nagar in Keelkattalai following appeals from residents of the locality. They had planned the station on Arul Murugan Nagar Main Road, but had shifted the location by about 200 yards near the burial ground in Keelkattalai, said Niranjan Mardi, Commissioner of Municipal Administration. Mr. Mardi's remarks came during the inspection of the works along with Alandur MLA and Labour Welfare Minister T.M. Anbarasan, Managing Director of Metrowater Shiv Das Meena, Joint Commissioner of Municipal Administration Hitesh Kumar Makwana and D. Madhavamoorthy, Engineering Director of Metrowater. E. Karunanidhi, Pallavaram Municipal Chairman and S. Sebastian, Regional Director of Municipal Administration were present. Officials said they would await orders from the Madras High Court before deciding on the main pumping station in Keelkattalai. Mr. Anbarasan said a scheme for including those areas left out of the drainage network was being made and revised estimates would be prepared for the same.
Compost yard
On other issues, Mr. Mardi said work was in full progress at the integrated compost yard in Venkatamangalam for Alandur, Pallavaram and Tambaram municipalities. They had also identified 20 acres at Sekkadu for Avadi and Ambattur municipalities and in Sathangadu for Tiruvottiyur and Madhavaram municipalities. The Minister and the officials later went to Alandur where they discussed a water supply improvement scheme. The discussion ended with officials arriving at a decision on preparing estimates for the improvement scheme. N. Mahesan, Municipal Engineer of Alandur was present at the meeting.
