Seetharam Hosabettu is dead

MANGALORE: Seetharam Hosabettu, eminent writer, popularly known as "Narayan Achar" is no more. He was 68. Mr. Hosabettu, who was ailing for quite some time passed away at his residence at Hosabettu near here this morning. He was the former principal of Govindasa College, Suratkal and was widely respected by his students and peers for his scholastic aptitude.

He was conferred with the District Rajyotsava Award at his residence on Wednesday.

Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president of Dakshina Kannada district unit of Kannada Sahitya Parishat along with other eminent personalities of Suratkal handed over the award to Mr. Hosabettu.

Describing Mr. Hosabettu as a disciplined person, known for his uncompromising stand on various issues, Mr. Kalkura said it was sad that such a personality never got the recognition he deserved. Mr. Hosabettu never craved for recognition. The Rajyotsava award presented to him was a timely honour that we could give to this great person, Mr. Kalkura said.
