Regional round of Young World Quiz concludes

430 students, representing 215 teams, participated in the preliminary round

    MANGALORE: Ujval S. and Vinayak M. Prabhu of Nalanda English High School won the regional round of The Hindu Young World Quiz held here on Thursday. Akansha Baliga and Risha Rai from St. Aloysius Pre-University College and Sherlyn Menezes and Mervam Faiz from St. Mary's High School finished second and third respectively.

    The other finalists were Sharada Pre-University College, Sharada Vidyalaya and Little Rock Indian School, Udupi. In all, 430 students representing 215 teams participated in the preliminary round and six of these teams made it to the finals.

    The regional finals had several rounds such as `headline', `topsy-turvy' and `jumbled jackpot'. It was in the fourth round that the team from Nalanda established a clear lead scoring 32 points. The quiz concluded with a buzzer round. The winners were awarded Rs.8, 000. The prizes for the second and third positions were Rs. 6, 000 and Rs. 4, 000 respectively.

    Eveready was the title sponsor of the event, and Jamaai Ice Cream was the associate sponsor. State Bank of Travancore, Britannia Tiger Biscuits, Garden City College, HP Invent Printers, Reliance Hello, Encyclopaedia Britanica, Cycle Brand Agarbathis, Vizag Steel, Reynolds and Penguin were the other sponsors. Maaza was the official drink and SS Music was the TV sponsor of the event. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited was the sole regional sponsor of the event. MRPL gave away gift vouchers worth Rs.2, 000 to the six participant teams.
