BMW's driver speeds away after hitting a woman while she is crossing the road

HYDERABAD: Police are verifying reports that a car, which fatally knocked down a woman at Gachibowli four days ago, was driven by a Telugu film celebrity or one of his family members.

The BMW car's unidentified driver sped after hitting Susheelamma, 65, on Sunday evening. The woman succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.

A motorcyclist, who chased the car, noted down its number. A case of rash and negligent act under Section 304-A of the IPC was registered. Investigation revealed that the vehicle owner is Sri Mithra township managing director N.V. Chowdhary.

Police sources said Mr. Chowdhary denied having driven the car on the day of the accident. It is learnt that he gave vague replies, saying some of his friends from the Telugu film industry now and then use his vehicle.

This triggered speculation that a film celebrity or one of his family members drove the car when the accident occurred.
