SIVAGANGA: A red alert has been sounded in the district following the outbreak of dengue fever in some areas of the district. Five persons have tested positive for dengue that has forced the district administration to take steps on a war footing. All district and taluk hospitals and primary health centres and sub-centres have been directed to monitor the fever cases.The Collector, M.A. Siddique, who discussed the issue with top officials of the Health Department told The Hindu on Thursday that of the blood samples of 13 suspected cases sent to the entomological laboratory in Virudhunagar, five tested positive for dengue. While three cases were from Ilayankudi block, two were from Thirubuvanam block.Communicable disease preventive measures are being taken. Instructions have been given to test the nature of fever cases. Mosquito control measures are also under way. He said bleeding in noses, eyes and ears were the symptoms of dengue fever. If anybody had these symptoms, they should immediately call 04575-241455, he said.
