Chief Secretary to prepare report on VVIP security
Thiruvananthapuram:
The State Government has asked Chief Secretary Lizzie Jacob to draw up a detailed report to ensure foolproof protection for visiting VVIPs following a lapse in the security for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his recent trip to the State.
Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told a news channel on Thursday that the formation of a special commando force under the Kerala Police for handling VVIP security was also being considered. There are plans to buy new vehicles and communication equipment for this purpose. A New Delhi report quoting informed sources said a traffic inspector of the Kerala Police had been held responsible for the lapse in the security of the Prime Minister. An investigation conducted by the elite Special Protection Group and other security agencies pointed the finger at the traffic inspector who allegedly ``misdirected'' the Prime Minister's convoy.
