BANGALORE: Several farmers and agricultural workers under the banner of Raitha Krishi Karmikara Sanghatane (RKS) organised a public meeting on Thursday demanding adequate price for farm produce and early completion of all pending irrigation projects. The farmers took out a protest march from Chikkalalbagh and culminated at the Bannappa Park here. Several trade union leaders, including K. Radhakrishna, State Secretary of SUCI; sanghatane State Secretary H.V. Diwakar and its State unit president T.S. Suneeth Kumar addressed the public meeting. The demands included leaving the World Trade Organisation; abandoning the "anti-farmer and anti-agriculture worker" draft national agriculture policy; adequate compensation to farmers and workers affected by drought; stringent penal action against producers of substandard agricultural inputs; adequate support price for all agricultural food produce and immediate disbursement of agricultural insurance.
