Thiruvananthapuram: Minister for Health P.K. Sreemathy has asked the department officials to be on the alert to tackle the challenges of new and emerging communicable diseases in the State. At a review meeting held at the Directorate of Health Services here on Thursday, Ms. Sreemathy asked the officials to step up preventive measures to check the spread of dengue fever, chikungunya and other water-borne infectious diseases. She also asked that the details of vacancies in various health care institutions be informed to the Ministry on time and that appointments be made through the PSC or the employment exchange. The Minister also said that she was exploring the possibilities of acquiring all bed-linen and other hospital linen requirements of the Government hospitals from the Khadi or handloom sector. Health Secretary Vishwas Mehta, Director of Health Services T.K. Kuttamani and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
