Student commits suicide

NEW DELHI: Depressed over his poor performance in examinations, a Class X student of Delhi Public School Noida allegedly hanged himself to death at Mangal Vihar in East Delhi on Wednesday night. However, no suicide note has been found.

According to the police, the tragedy came to light on Thursday morning when the parents of Gyan Deep found him hanging from the ceiling. They told the police that he was suffering from depression for the past few weeks due to declining grades.

Bodies recovered

New Delhi: Delhi Police have recovered three bodies from different parts of the district on Thursday. One of the dead has been identified as Maulvi Nasimuddin who was missing from Meerut since October 22. He appeared to have been strangulated, police said. The other two are still unidentified.

Dengue toll

NEW DELHI: While the death toll due to the dreaded dengue so far remained unchanged at 62 on Thursday, the total number of registered cases went up to 2,775 with 67 fresh cases being reported across the city's hospitals. Of the 67 patients, 25 were admitted to the All-India Institute of Medical Science where 144 patients are still undergoing treatment.

Minor assaulted

NEW DELHI: A four-year-old girl was allegedly criminally assaulted by her 19-year-old neighbour at Sangam Vihar in South Delhi on Wednesday. The accused has been arrested. According to the police, the incident took place in the afternoon when Dharmender took the victim to his room on some pretext and allegedly assaulted her. Hearing her screams, area residents rushed to the scene, overpowered the accused and handed him over to the police.

`Criminal' arrested

NEW DELHI: An alleged Haryana-based criminal carrying a reward of Rs. 25,000 on his head has been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police. He had been evading arrest for two years. The accused, Intezar alias Don, is a resident of Badayun in UP. According to the police, he along with his accomplices -- Afzal, Mumtaz, Shafi Mohammad and others -- was involved in several heinous crimes.

Court summons

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Thursday summoned the Medical Superintendent and Executive Director of the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute here to explain alleged failure of the Institute to reserve a certain percentage of the beds for poor patients. A Division Bench comprising Justice M.K. Sharma and Justice Hima Kohli directed them to appear in the Court on December 13.
