HYDERABAD : The 37th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), to be held between November 23 and December 3 will pay homage to several bigwigs in the Indian cinema industry. They include filmmaker Satyajit Ray, director Hrishikesh Mukherjee, actresses Nadira, P. Bhanumati and Padmini, music directors S.D. Burman and Naushad, actors Prithviraj Dr. Rajkumar and Oduvil Unnikrishnan, said Nandini Paliwal, CEO, Entertainment Society of Goa. The 11-day fest with the theme of `The whole world is one family' will be inaugurated by veteran actor Shashi Kapoor, she said, at a road show here on Friday. IFFI 2006 will open with the English film `Volver' from Spain, directed by Spanish director Pedro Amodovar starring Penelope Cruz and Carmen Maura that won the best screenplay and best actress award at the Festival de Cannes 2006. It will end with the screening of the English film `Babel' from Mexico directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu starring Brad Pitt. Ms. Nandini said care had been taken to remove apprehensions in the minds of delegates and tourists by providing adequate security while in Panjim. Ramesh Negi, Commissioner and Secretary, Finance, Goa said IFFI was considered as one of dozen well-known festivals among the 300-odd film fetes globally. Others present were the directors of the Andhra Pradesh State Televison and Film Development Corporation, filmmaker Sagar and actor Raja of `Anand' fame.
