Rain toll goes up to 10 in Guntur

GUNTUR: Death roll in Guntur district owing to cyclone `Ogni' and heavy rain for the past one week has gone up to 10 with two more deaths reported on Friday. While one death was from Bhattiprolu in wall collapse another death was due to cold weather.

Officially number of deaths due to rain has been put at 10 and due to cold weather the death roll has risen to 28. While there was no rain on Friday in the 10 coastal mandals that were battered by the cyclone, heavy rain inundated several colonies in the Guntur city and officials organised 73 relief camps all over the district.

Relief

The district administration began distribution of rice at Sashank Goel Nagar, Krishna Babu Nagar, SC Colony, and Bose Colony to the marooned people. Municipal commissioner D. Rama Rao and district Collector G. Jayalakshmi visited some colonies separately and began relief measures.

More than 3,500 people were being fed in relief camps and rice was distributed in Guntur city.
