10 new meet records set

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Ten new meet records were set on the second day of the 37th State schools aquatic meet at the Water Works Swimming Pool here on Friday.

Milan Kadukattil of SAI Thrissur set the pool on fire by breaking K.Rajeev's five-year-old mark in 100m freestyle event in senior boys (sports division) category. Milan clocked 0:56.58 seconds to better the old mark (0:59.42) set in 2001. This was Milan's second record of the meet.

On a day that was dominated by trainees from sports hostel, the performance of LG. Murli Krishnan in general schools stood out as he set a new mark in senior boys 400m IM. Murali Krishnan erased C. Abhliash's mark (5.24.16) set in 2003 by winning the gold in 5:16.00 seconds.

However, R.L. Arun Kumar (Centralised Sports Hostel) hogged the limelight by breaking another long-standing record in sub-junior boys 100m breaststroke. Arun broke R.S. Baiju's nine-year-old record by finishing first in sports division category.

Thiruvananthapuram maintained its lead at the top with 284 points followed by Attingal (175 pts) and Palakkad (22pts).
