Sailors die in mine blast

B. Muralidhar Reddy

COLOMBO: At least two sailors of the Sri Lanka Navy were killed in an alleged claymore attack by LTTE cadres near the 6th Mile Post along the Nilaveli-Trincomalee road on Saturday. The military accused the LTTE of launching a mortar attack at the security forces Forward Defence Line (FDL) at Muhamalai in the Northern Province on Friday evening. "The troops repulsed that attack effectively and brought the situation under control. Two soldiers were injured," it said. The developments came amidst assertion by the LTTE that there have been 38 aerial bombings by the Sri Lankan Air Force since 2002 during which the Cease Fire Agreement (CFA) has been in operation.
