For recall of legislators
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee on Saturday advocated the system of recall of elected representatives who failed to discharge their duties.
"Unless all MPs recommend recall of the elected representatives and an amendment is made to the existing laws and is passed in both Houses of Parliament it will be a difficult task," he said.
The Speaker admitted that the system of recall could not be introduced easily, but hoped the people and the media would support such a practice.
While stating that he did not criticise the media's `sting operations,' Mr. Chatterjee asked scribes not to cross the `Lakshman rekha.' None would object if criminal activities of elected representatives were exposed, but it would be improper to use such tactics to malign a leader.
