Mumbai : Reiterating their full support to the UNI employees against the take over bid of the trilingual news agency by a private business house, leaders of the two major Left parties said on Saturday they would meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in a few days to discuss the issue. CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat, who visited the UNI office in Bandra to see the UNI Employees' Federation general Secretary C.P. Jha who is on indefinite fast against ``repressive measures,'' said that the issue now ``needs an urgent redressal.'' The Information and Broadcasting Ministry's report on the UNI issue had been submitted to the Prime Minister, he said. The Left forces would not allow such repressions, he added.``I have instructed my party headquarters to contact the Prime Minister's Office to immediately fix our meeting with him,'' the CPI(M) leader said. Denouncing the transfers and suspensions, he said that the Left would fully support the Government in efforts to maintain UNI's independent character and protect the interests of its thousand-odd employees. Mr. Karat was accompanied by the Secretary, CITU, K.L. Bajaj.
