HYDERABAD: Three environmentalists -- K. Purushotham Reddy, T. Shivaji Rao and K.L. Vyas -- have demanded that dengue be declared an epidemic in the State. An `all-out war' should be launched against mosquito menace, involving students and housewives, they added. At a press conference here on Saturday, Prof. Reddy (Citizens Against Pollution) said they planned to move the State Human Rights Commission, as "people's right to health, clean surroundings and life itself were being violated by the Government". Prof. Rao, and Prof. Vyas charged the Government with "lacking in commitment to tackle the rising incidence of dengue which has claimed over 30 lives and affected nearly 4,000 people."
Full-time Minister
They demanded a full-time Health Minister and a drive to control mosquito breeding in residential areas and public places. The places should include tanks, streams, stagnant pools in open fields, wells, marshy lands, garbage dumps and fields.
