DINDIGUL: Chennai entered the final overpowering Dindigul 4-3 via tie-breaker in the 29th Tamil Nadu State junior inter-district football championship for the T.P. Ramasamy Pillai Cup on Saturday. The teams were locked goalless at the end of the regulation time. It was a keenly fought match with both the teams playing spiritedly. The defence of both the teams stood the test well. Yet, Dindigul could have taken the lead in the first half, but striker G. Satheeshkumar missed an easy chance. In the second session, Chennai'sforwards threatened but could not score. In the tie-breaker, Dindigul took a 3-2 lead with Mohanraj, Raguram and Chinniah converting the kicks. For Chennai, Rakesh Babu, who took the first kick failed he score but the next two, Karthikeyan and David scored. However, Rajalingam, who took the fourth kick for Dindigul sent the ball out but Sasikumar converted for Chennai to level teams 3-3. Balakumar took the last kick for Dindigul but Chennai goalkeeper Arun brought off a spectacular save and Ravi Moses of Chennai converted the last kick to give victory for Chennai. Chennai will meet defending champion Tiruvallur in the final on Sunday.

Hindu Higher Secondary School, Srivilliputhur, won two titles in the boys' section in the Ramanathapuram divisional inter-educational District schools beach volleyball tournament at Paramakudi on Saturday. The results (all finals): Boys: U-19: G.S. Hindu HSS, Srivilliputhur bt Thiagaraja HSS, Srivilliputhur 21-12, 21-13; U-17: G.S. Hindu HSS bt Nadar HSS, Rajapalayam 21-17, 19-21, 15-12.
