KARIMNAGAR: Samata Party leader and former Union Minister George Fernandes has alleged that the Congress had deceived the people of Telangana after being elected to the power on the issue of Telangana statehood. Participating in a convention on the demand for Telangana, organised by the Telangana Sangharshana Samithi here on Saturday, he alleged that the party was known for not fulfilling its poll promises. He said that he had informed the TRS leaders not to join the Congress-led Government as the latter were known for deceiving. He said that the Congress was bent upon suppressing the Telangana movement.
Intensify movement
Calling upon people of the region to intensify the movement for the cause of separate statehood in New Delhi, he said that Telangana would be achieved only through a mass movement. He suggested the campaigners to involve the youth and womenfolk in the movement.
Demands
Balladeer Gaddar captivated the gathering with his songs on the suppression of Telangana region since ages and plight of the people. He flayed Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy for suppressing the statehood issue. He demanded constitution of Telangana State for solution of all problems of the region. TRS legislator Etala Rajender, BJP district president P. Sugunakar Rao, TRS leader Jayashankar, Telangana Sangharshana Samithi district convenor Bella Naik and others participatedin the programme.
